GeniusRocket Ad Inspires Sylvan “Anything But Algebra” Video Contest

One of our amazing clients, Sylvan Learning, has chosen a GeniusRocket-produced advertisement to serve as inspiration for a new “Anything But Algebra!” video contest. Building off a theme in the GeniusRocket-produced spot, “Running Away From Homework,” the contest asks parents, “Does the thought of helping your child with algebra homework scare you?” Sylvan then asks parents to create a short video creatively showcasing what they would rather do than help their child with algebra.

While it’s important to note the difference between the GeniusRocket model—curated, iterative, and private (not at all a contest)—and this contest, we love this concept and we think user-generated video is a great strategy for Sylvan!

Sylvan will award the creator of the funniest and most original video their choice of an iPad 2 or a $750 AMEX gift card. The runner up will receive a $100 gift card. The contest is designed to spread the word about Sylvan Learning Centers through user-generated content, showing parents around the country that Sylvan can offer the homework assistance they may not be able to provide themselves.

Sylvan Learning came to GeniusRocket in August 2011 looking for a fresh approach to advertising their brand. After reviewing more than 60 submissions from the GeniusRocket curated community of professional production studios, they chose four projects to be produced. “Running Away From Homework” is the first spot to be released, running in regional television markets around the United States. The television spot, featuring a real-life mother and son, was filmed in Nashville, TN and will air through the end of 2011. See the ad below:
